Wimbledon Introduces Video Review Technology in 2025.

The Championships court with replay technology

The tournament joins the American and Australian Opens in implementing video review technology.

Video review technology are set to arrive at The Championships for the 2025 edition.

Players will gain the option to contest certain calls from the official, mirroring the system currently in operation at each of the US Open and the Aussie major.

This innovation will be operational on the main stadium and Court One for the duration of the tournament and on the remaining show courts when they are staging singles matches.

This move arrives only a year after the AELTC introduced ELC, which effectively ended the centuries-old role of line judges.

Scope of Challenges

Players cannot to dispute the call of the ELC system, but are allowed to ask for the umpire to re-examine specific situations, such as:

  • If a ball has bounced twice.
  • If a shot touched an opponent's racquet or body on the way past.
  • Possible hindrance end of a rally.

Importantly, there will be an unlimited number on the number of challenges a player can request.

Case in Point

An illustrative example occurred in a recent tournament last week, where Daniil Medvedev initiated the review system against his opponent.

Draper conceded it was a difficult call for the official, but thought his rival had "used the regulations effectively."

Official Aurelie Tourte viewed a replay and determined Draper was responsible for interference, granting the point to his opponent.

Broader Adoption

This technology are not exclusive to major tournaments. The system has been in use at the American major since 2023 and the Aussie Open since 2025.

Furthermore, it is becoming more common on the WTA circuit, and by next season the men's ATP Tour will have video reviews in place at all of its tournaments.

Additional Innovations

A further innovation at The Championships 2025 involves the introduction of visual indicators on scoreboards to support the audio calls from the electronic line calling system.

This addresses situations where spectators have sometimes been uncertain if a ball was in or out.

Finally, with exactly a century of days to go until the beginning of the Championships, the AELTC have further revealed an increase in daily attendance at the qualifying competition in Roehampton.
