'It's like they never miss a pass': Swansea's Ethan Galbraith resumes battle with Manchester City.

Ethan Galbraith grins broadly as he remembers the dramatic dying seconds of his team's remarkable turnaround win against Nottingham Forest in the League Cup. The encounter ended with Galbraith briefly donning a supporter's spectacles after the on-field celebration.

During the final moments of stoppage time, Galbraith struck the post with a powerful shot from distance, and the defender promptly hammered in the rebound before racing off toward the crowd to mark the goal, with fans congregating around the players.

Remarkable Recovery

The result capped an incredible recovery given the Welsh side had trailed 2-0 midway through the latter period. During the euphoria, there was some collateral damage. Galbraith explained, "There was a spectator trying to get our attention and we were wondering: 'What's he on about here?' Then we noticed the glasses. It was a bit of banter putting them on. We are on the pitch as players but we're individuals, too, so to have a joke with the fans is always good."

Premier League Giants

The victory booked a next round match at home against Pep Guardiola's side on Wednesday, a club Galbraith came close against at the comparable phase of the FA Cup with the London side in February. The athletic midfielder had a prime vantage point when the underdogs took the lead in remarkable manner, with Jamie Donley's volley from about way out going in via the bar and the Stefan Ortega. It feels criminal that it was recorded as an own goal.

"You would have wished they would've given it to him for taking the effort on from that far out," commented Galbraith, who played in the middle before moving to right defensive wing after they changed shape. That meant getting to grips with the England international, with whom he traded tops, and the player was among the opposition who paid tribute to the way the underdogs attacked the game.

Opponent's Class

"Athletically they are very good but even the basics and simple things, they can just perform consistently," Galbraith says. "It seems as if they always find their target and they know how to control and slow down a game. You can feel you're doing well and then abruptly they will just thread a ball between defenders without you even seeing. You have to be alert every second of the game. It takes a strong mentality and concentration just to remain competitive."

Welsh Transition

The Welsh side pushed to sign Galbraith in January and fought off rivals to sign him in the summer in a seven-figure transfer. He became a favorite as a crowd pleaser across multiple campaigns at Leyton Orient and has rapidly done the same in his new home. At his previous team he joined forces once more with the coach, who previously gave Galbraith his debut prolonged spell in first-team action on loan at his loan club from Old Trafford. Then came a loan at League Two Salford City, before he moved on from Manchester United.

Growth Journey

"I was probably a bit naive going into professional soccer. I think numerous professionals would say youth team games is very different. Sometimes it feels like play is circulated without real physicality. There are limited physical contests. Once you start playing professional matches you have to adjust fast."

Country Call-ups

He has shown that maturation for both domestically and internationally, performing well for Northern Ireland, who remain in contention for the World Cup next summer via the playoffs and for whom he has been selected in the recent fixtures, including two matches fixtures against a football powerhouse. Ian Baraclough, Galbraith's ex- international manager, gave him the ultimate compliment, saying he was Northern Ireland's "little Iniesta or Xavi" given how he controls possession and his eye for a game-changing assist.

Starting Out

It has been a remarkable path for the player from the local area in Glengormley, just outside the capital, who used to see his parent, Stuart, also a engine room operator, play for Ballyclare Comrades.

Old Trafford Memory

Galbraith's sole appearance for the Red Devils came in Central Asia in 2019, a Europa League trip to Astana, where they featured on an plastic turf and the arena covering was shut owing to conditions of -15C. "It was a long trip and it was freezing," he recalls, grinning. "The week before, myself and quite a few of the young lads trained together, so that assisted our preparation. Just to accompany the senior squad and get a couple of minutes at the end was amazing."

Moving On

How hard was it to leave United, the club he joined from Linfield aged his mid-teens? "This turned out relatively straightforward, because I got to the stage where I understood I couldn't establish myself at the top level. I'm very appreciative for the experience gained but it got to the point where I felt I required a fresh start, move to a lower level and play first-team games. Now I'm gradually working my way back up."

New Environment

It is mid-afternoon at Swansea's Fairwood training base but Galbraith has somewhere to be at late afternoon: a learner's exam, another move in the direction of getting on the road. Prior to relocating to the local area, the young professional was a regular in Swansea's dubbed player transport, a small coach driven by team personnel, the drivers, which shuttles players to and from practice and games.

"I travel with the Portuguese player, Ronald, an Ivorian player – a former passenger used to be in it but has got his license. It's pleasant to spend time with the guys but I'm planning to be the next one to stop using the bus and behind the wheel. His teammate is known for his humor; he's frequently playing tricks."

Public Engagement

While playing for Orient, Galbraith would travel alongside followers on public transport after commuting at his base. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
